About this site

Welcome to my blog!! I’m clearly not very good at this, so please forgive my sporadic postings!!

In case you’re wondering why I would ever contemplate having a blog, I thought it was worth explaining…

My hubby Peet and (to a slightly lesser degree) our friend Shane have put quite a bit of energy into pushing encouraging me into being a food blogger. I managed to resist for quite a while. And then I caved. Very. Slowly.

Here’s the tipping point: I make a lot of food that my friends (aka “guinea pigs”) get to try. Fortunately for them, a lot of my experiments turn out OK… and I find myself inundated with requests for the latest recipes. Now, I’m a “list” girl. If something doesn’t get written down, it probably won’t happen; if you don’t email me with your requests, they may not amount to anything (even though I gave a very sincere “absolutely!” at the time). So, when people throw out a verbal enquiry for details regarding the latest thrill to their palate, the likelihood of me remembering to act on it is kinda slim.

All that to say, one of the main purposes of this blog is to make it simple for me to respond to people by saying something along the lines of, “Yeah, just go to thefoodfaffer.com and you’ll find the recipe there”, thus making it far easier to spread the food-love to those of you who keep asking me for recipes!!

So, to the name…

The verb “to faff” is probably known to all the Brits reading this, and also to a lot of the Americans who are used to hearing Brits like me use the term in a multitude of contexts. For those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about, here’s a dictionary definition:

“to spend your time doing a lot of things which are not important instead of the thing that you should be doing” (Cambridge Dictionary).

Now, I’m not for one minute saying that cooking or food is unimportant. Far from it!! But I can easily justify spending hours in the kitchen “being creative” when I should probably be doing something slightly more important instead. Therefore, by definition, I faff. Hence, “The Food Faffer”!!

I’m sure there are many other faffers out there in Kitchen Land, and I’d love to hear from you if you make any of the creations on this site, or if you have any questions or input… so please feel free to leave comments (PG-rated, please!!), and I promise I’ll try to respond to any questions in a timely manner!!

Happy faffing!! 😀
